Offered for sale here is a very nice example of a genuine, original New Zealand servicemans WW1 Victory Medal. This is the medal awarded to:

8/1921 Pte Ernest Andreas ALBERTHSEN

Otago Infantry

New Zealand Expeditionary Force

Private Alberthsen enlisted on the 15th Feb 1915 at 25 yrs of age. Ernest took part in the August Offensive at Gallipoli and on the 9th August 1915:

(...\'On 9 August, the New Zealanders clung to Chunuk Bair. A mixed garrison of the Wellington Mounted Rifles and Otago Infantry Battalion manned the trenches at the summit and were subjected to the same fierce Turkish counter-attacks that had befallen the Wellington Infantry Battalion on the previous day..\'.).

He was wounded in the shoulder on the 9th August in this action and was repatriated home to New Zealand unfit.

Ernest Alberthsen was discharged unfit from the NZEF on 12 January 1917, and died on the 22nd March 1960. He is recorded as having203 days foreign service.

His name and service number is stamped on the rim of the medal. Unfortunately there is no ribbon with the medal.
