Photos show everything. Not sure the age, but obviously very old. The bell is brass, and I believe the base is cast iron. I could be wrong. You can see the name \"SARGENT\" embossed into the metal. All gears turn nicely, and the clappers spin to make the bell ring. It looks like someone painted it to match or blend in with thwir walls. As far as I know, it works just fine. I am not sure what makes it work. The bottom diameter is 3-1/2\". This is an awesome vintage collectible bell. Photos show the true condition. Please look closely and ask any questions you may have.
