ANTIQUE VOLLAND RAGGEDY ANN, ANDY, BELOVED BELINDY

Probably Made in 1926 to 1928

This trio of friends has been together their whole lives and were purchased from the estate of their original owner in Rochester, NY. Unfortunately, I was unable to learn the name of the original owner. Please don\'t ask me to separate them; they have been together for over 70 years and really should remain together. I am selling them as a single lot.

Volland Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy are the \"single lash\" dolls and probably date to about 1926/7. Volland Beloved Belindy probably dates to about 1928. All dolls are as is, with minor repairs, some wear, stains and fading. Faces are very good; see all pics for condition.

Annis all original and very good condition. She has an outlined nose and she still has rosy cheeks. Her eyes may be replacements or simply restitched, I\'m not certain, but they are antique shoe buttons. (They probably could be stitched on a little better; they dangle slightly.) She has black wool worsted yarn hair in a \"fringe\" at the top of head; no hair in back - never was. Face has some stains (probably kissed too much) andis darkened a bit with age, but her body is clean and white; it was protected by her clothing. I don\'t feel any wooden heart, but it may be buried under stuffing. One thumb has a small hole and her dress is faded. I don\'t see any stamped patent date, (possibly hidden under clothing? I have not removed it) but she is unmistakably a genuine Volland doll. Ann\'s pantalets are stitched onto her body and dress is stitched closed in back, although the buttons are present. There is a small hole on the front of apron and a couple small holes at the front hem of dress; not all that noticeable.

Andy is all original, clothing is faded, but otherwise very good. His hair is red wool yarn and he still has his hat. Face has some minor stains (too much loving!) One shoe button eye has lost its shiny black surface (perhaps mouse-chewed?), there are a few stains on one arm and sleeve and some on the back of his outfit, one foot has a minor stitched repair and one of the mother-of-pearl buttons on the back of his \"britches\" is broken.

Belindy is, I believe, all or mostly all original. I\'m not 100% sure about her apron, but this is how she came to me.She hasapatched repaironone foot, otherwisevery goodcondition. There are some stains on her face, theblack line between her \"lips\" has worn off, one arm is restitched at shoulder (right through the sleeve) and there is some damage to the sleeve and one arm has a small hole.

In my research, I discovered that there are NOTRUEPAIRS of VollandRaggedy Anns and Andys sincethey were manufactured for Volland by twodifferent companies. Theseare the closest to a matched pair I have seen.

Winning buyer will also receivea copy of the New York-Pennsylvania Collector containing an article (written by myself) about Gruelle and all his creations which includes a photo of these 3 dolls.

Please review all pics for condition as they are part of description. I have tried to show all the condition issues. These dolls are in remarkable condition for their age and in spite of all the loving and play they have received over the last 80 or 90 years.

This happy trio is awonderful bit of uniquely American doll history and the lot books for about $4,000.00 in this condition ($5,000.00 and up in excellent).
