This very scarce basket dates from the early 19th century and was likely made for sewing notions. The basket is made of sweet grass with a divided interior and beautiful diamond patterns on the side walls. The weaving quality is superb, nothing short of a work of art. The surface has a wonderfully pleasing nut brown patina that begs to be handled. There is a small spot on the foot where a section of binder is missing for about 2\". There is also a spot on the top of one divider panel where the binder is loose and should be glued down. The basket measures 3\" Tall, 6.25\" wide and 9.5\" long\". The basket is exceedingly scarce in any condition and this one is very very nice.
