Mounted Within Aircraft Propeller Boss

Royal Flying Corps

Circa 1914-18

An extremely rare and highly sort aftersmiths barometer mounted within the heavy oak wood propeller boss of a WW1 aeroplane, then to fashioned wing mounts with turned wood spindles. This type of item would probably have been put together by an off duty aircraft technician in his spare time possibly for an Officer to decorate the mess. The centre hub section clearly shows the eight mounting holes which would have been to bolt the boss in place, which have been plugged with oak roundels and the top used to mount the Royal Flying Corps cap badge.
