GOLDEN TIGER OAK WELCH FOLDING BED: Manufactured by WelchFolding Bed Co. Grand Rapids Michigan. The Welch Folding Bed Companyexisted from1886 to 1908.The onlyproduct ever manufactured by Welch was the folding bed. The bed is stamped 86 on the back of the bed. I suspect this is the date of manufacture and if I am correct then this is the first year of OverallFolding BedDimensions:

We had this mattresscustom made for this bed and it has only been used a handful of times as this bed was only usedas a spare bed.

All hardware in the bed looks to be from the correct period - for example square nuts.

We have the counter balance wrapped in plastic and oiled to minimize corrosion. We have owned this be for ~ 12 years and haven\'t had a need for the counterbalance as the bed opens and closes very easily.

It took a few months of research, but all of the locks work and have keys.

This folding bed hasconsiderable storage aswe were able to keep all of the bedding, pillows, comforters, etc needed for guests with plenty of room left over.

I had the platform made with modern casters to make the bed easier to turn around - please note that one of the rolling mechanisms and mount are missing but the platform makes the bed easier to turn with a more solid center of gravity than the original design intent allowed for. I had 6 casters installed in the platform. 4 are in the corner and 2 are centered on the back side of the bed - all casters are mounted direct to the platform frame for rigidity. There is a cut away in the back side of the platform where the two center casters are. These casters have integrated brakes with convenient access. The brakes allow you to lock the platform in place when the bed is down and isolates the platform from moving. This sale includes custom base supports for the foot of the bed with supports for the head of the bed and video instructions for how to lock the bed in place when open for use.

I have seen this beds priced considerably higher. I estimate this bed is worth at least $4,000.00 but to get this sale moving, the opening offer is only $2,500.00
