Description: Presented is an excellent example of traditional German saltglazed stoneware production - a beer stein or rather handled vase made in Westerwald area in around 1880s.
It was made by Simon Peter Gerz - one of the most famous ceramics manufacturers in Germany. S.P.Gerz started his company in 1857 in the town of Hoehr in the Westerwald area - the center of stoneware production for several centuries. He became one of the biggest manufacturers of ceramics in Germany - his wares included all possible styles and forms,
The stein is decorated with highly ornate Historismus motives. Very nice and impressive example of traditional German stoneware. It never had a lid and was probably not made for it - it was made as a vase in form of a historical stein from mid-1600s.
Excellent flawless condition, 5.5\" tall.
