Original Willcox & Gibbs Chain Stitch Sewing Machine
This is a lovely antique chain stitch hand operated sewing machine made by Willcox & Gibbs. It is in good working order. Model number A683177. From what I can tell it was made in late 1890s to 1900. There is patent information for the US and for England on the chrome plate - it was made in the USA but they had locations in New York, London and Paris. Black finish with nice gold painted trim decoration. There are a few wear spots to the black paint and some tarnish on the chrome plate that I think could be cleaned but I have not tried.
There is a wealth of information on the Willcox & Gibbs Sewing Machine Company if you check the sewalot site. The author writes\"The Wilcox & Gibbs chain stitch machines are one of the most collected sewing machines of all time. Some say the sewing machine represents the finest piece of Victorian precision engineering in the sewing world. The beautiful lines and superb stitching make the a collector\'s dream.\"
The small sewing machine measures 14\" long, 10\" tall and about 6\" deep.
Whether you use it to sew or to display on a table, this is great Victorian collectible, a wonderful gift.Antique Willcox & Gibbs Sewing Machine.
