Antique Wrought Iron Victorian Life Size Bird Cagec 1870\'s
For your consideration, an Antique Wrought Iron Victorian Life Sized Bird Cage in good+ condition.
Bird Cage jas 2 spinning doors (with latches) on the sides that will each hold a food or water cup.(See image #1, #3, #7, and #8)
There is a top center swing unit which has four swings.
There are also 3 front doors, one on each level.
This Cage could use a sandblasting as there is some light rust and oxidation, although is is on the exterior of the wrought iron and not eaten through it.
Contrary to what you may have heard, bird cages can be painted.
I just found a four page article explaining how to restore a cage like this.
You\'d start out with a metal brush and some steel wool and clean the wrought iron of debris.
Then thoroughly clean it and let it dry, and then follow the directions with a quality spray paint.
The article gives details on how to do it and what precautions to take.
For example, after painting the cage, you\'ll need to let it set for a couple of weeks or so to give the chemicals (VOC\'s) time to \'gas-off\' or leave the paint. The only time the paint is dangerous is during this time period.
There are many safe paints now, and if you do it yourself, you\'ll know it\'s safe.
The article also said to beware of buying cheaper/affordable seeming cages off of (for example) where the cage is made and painted in China where there are no quality or safety standards or regulations in place as far as chemical make-up of the cheaper paints.
This Victorian Bird Cage is aprox. 81\" high, by 24\" wide, by 18\" deep.
A Cage similar to this that is sold restored sells for between $4000 to $5000 or more.
I\'ve also listed this Victorian Cage on Craigslist Milwaukee.
If you were to contact me through Craigslist I\'d be willing to discount the price a bit.
