A fine and rare antique 18th century Georgian English Old Sheffield Plate Argyl dating to circa 1790-1800.With beaded rim and foot.Having a lid with finial attached and fruitwood handle.Standing on a circular foot and with spout..Argyl`s were designed to hold gravy and were popular at the end of the 18th century,although they are rare and unusual to find in such good condition as this piece is,The central tube within the Argyl was for the containment of hot water to keep the contents warm.This is a lovely piece in fine condition with no damage or repair and with little or no plate loss.Unmarked as the majority of Old Sheffield Plate is except for a fern or leaf device to the underside of the base.Standing 21 cms high a truly superb example of a rare antique item from the Golden age of English design,the Georgian period.
