ART & BEAUTY MAGAZINE #1 { Kitchen Sink Comix } and# 2 { Fantagraphics }Cult Underground Erotic Look at WomenRare & HTF #1 version
Art And Beauty Magazine Number 1 Robert Crumb ; A Kitchen Sink Comix Publication, Paperback ( 1996 )Art & Beauty: Number 1, originally published by Kitchen Sink Press in 1996, is at once a satirical take on aesthetics and a continued exploration of Crumb’s subversion of sexuality and mainstream values. Drawings of women in positions ranging from lascivious to modest are accompanied by quotations, many of which are from artists such as Leonardo da Vinci and Harvey Kurtzman. Mining his own obsessions and fantasies, Crumb reimagines the history of art, challenging social mores and expectations of propriety around the female form.
Art And Beauty Magazine Number 2 Robert Crumb ; A Fantagraphics Publication, Paperback ( 2003 )Women, drawn and commented upon by the inimitable R. Crumb. 2nd issue of Crumb\'s \"Art & Beauty Magazine\" series. The second volume of Art & Beauty, published in 2003, expanded on the first, adding all-new drawings (also of women) and quotations, likewise taken from the history of art. The images appeal to a purely erotic sensibility, which is undercut by the inclusion of often philosophical prose.
Born in Philadelphia in 1943, R. Crumb has used the comic-book medium to address the absurdity of social conventions, political disillusionment, irony, racial and gender stereotypes, sexual fantasies and fetishes. Inspired by Thomas Nast, Honoré Daumier and T.S. Sullivant, among others, his drawings offer a satirical critique of consumer culture.
Paperback: 32 pagesPublisher: Fantagraphics Books (2003)Language: English
These magazines are his take on recapturing the nudie cutie magazines of the 1930s and 40s, but updated with nude and stylish drawings of his wife Aline, starlets, girlfriends, and other Crumb-style ladies
BiographyBorn in Philadelphia, R. Crumb is the author of numerous comic works and one of the pioneers of underground comics. His books include Kafka, The Complete Crumb Comics (17 volumes), The R. Crumb Sketchbook (10 volumes), R. Crumb Draws the Blues, The Book of Mr. Natural, The Book of Genesis Illustrated by R. Crumb, and many more.
