From what I can find out on-line, these were made either in the 1920\'s or 1930\'s and are reflective of the industrialArt Deco period or just beyong. They remind me of WPA art pieces. The company, Advance Aluminum Castings Corporation,was started in 1910 andis known for fittings and castings for the industrial profession, not for bookends. There were probably premiums for customers.
They are made out of aluminum and show two shirtless foundry workers poring hot aluminum. The backs of each are marked: Advance Aluminum Castings Corp. 2742 W. 36th Place, Chicago, Illinois Sand-Permanent Mold Aluminum Castings *Heat Treating* AACC. Each is 4.5\" tall x 6\" wide x 2.25\" deep. The original green felts are still attached and they are slightly faded. There are no cracks or chips. There is a bit of scuffing along the top edge and few very superficial scratches, but overall, they are in lovely vintage condition.
