They are cut intosix-inch squares and usually contained 26 pieces. Fabric collections rotated to present quilters with avariety of new fabrics being produced by leading companies in theindustry. In selecting fromindividual fabric collections, quilters became aware of designers’ intent regardingcoordinated scale of prints and colorways. This listing includes one half-yard cut of each of the fabrics in this collection as photographed.

AllentownArt Museum — From the ALLENTOWN ART MUSEUM in Allentown,Pennsylvania, comes a remarkable new collection called A CENTURY OF PROGRESS, named for the 1933 Chicago Exposition. A CENTURY OF PROGRESS represents some of the innovative Art Deco textiledesigns found in the Museum’s outstanding collection of over 500 Americanprinted silk fashion fabrics and scarves.These comprise only a portion of the 2,500 textiles collected in the1920’s and 1930’s, and subsequently donated to the Museum in 1974, by Mrs. KateFowler Merle-Smith.

A new respect fordesign resulted from the 1925 Paris Exposition Des Art Decoratifs et IndustrielsModernes, and the public developed a special appreciation for products whichexhibited excellence in design.Art assumed a major role in industrial production as well.

The eight printsincluded in this Merryvale packet are: 1) Architectural Elements, 2) Sky Ride,3) Rhapsody, 4) Thrill, 5) ScienceTower, 6) Birches, 7) Concrete Pylons, and 8) Search Lights and Sirens.
