A beautiful and unusual Fine plate, from the early 1900\'s (circa 1891-early 20th century), by Ashworth Bros. of Hanley, England. Obviously influenced by the period\'s interest in Chinioserie, a large green dragon takes up the center of the plate, while the \"bandana\" border features medallions and red Chinese Foo Dogs/ guardian lions standing guard around it.
10 inches wide, with a gently scalloped edge. The border is black and white, while the lunging dragon is a deep jade green. The contrasting colors leave a crisp impression! Condition is excellent, no chips or cracks that I can detect on the face of the plate, only two tiny spots of white (like the size of a pinhead where it looks like missing paint/glaze) and two very tiny possible chips that I see- one on the scalloped edge of the plate and the other on the underside of plate at the edge (see last photo, the insides of the black circles I drew). It\'s hard to detect these with the eye, but if you look very closely and you feel with your finger you can see that these spots are more rough than the rest of the smooth finish. The one on the scalloped edge is approximately 1/4 of an inch long and the one on the underside about 6/16 (0r 3/8) of an inch. For all I know these were always there and in no way do they detract from the absolute beauty of this piece!
Marked on the back with the Ashworth Bros. mark, with additional pattern marks in red. This plate pattern is extremely difficult to find, so this is a real treasure!
