Australian White Opal Pendant & Chain, Solid Silver, Overlaid With 14 kt Y Gold.:
$80.30

Australian white Opal pendant and chain set in solid Silver which has been overlaid with a good thick coating if 14 kt yellow Gold. The Gold overlay will not rub or fade or flake with wear. Nor will the solid Silver pendant and chain tarnish as Silver usually does. This necklace will not, due to that Gold overlay. This beautiful pear cut Opal has a carat weight of 1.25 ct. It measures 12 mm X 8 mm across the longest and widest parts of the gem stone. The chain measures 18 inches in length and it has a lobster claw clasp. The actual pendant is 1 inch or 25 mm in length. This really is a lovely necklace. Australian White Opal has a much subtler play of colour than the African variety, but the play of colour is there; you just have to look a bit harder for it that\'s all, it\'s not so \"in your face.\" This lovely pendant and chain are both hallmarked Sterling Silver. Just some information about Ethiopian Opals that you may find interesting :- I would like to tell you something very important and that may be of benefit to you if you intend buying these Opal earrings or in fact if you intend buying any Welo or Ethiopian Opals, whether you buy from me or not:; 2 - 3 years ago we didn\'t even know that Ethiopia had Opals, let alone Opals of such high quality and with such marvelous play of colour which is what gives the Opal it\'s value. Now, as it stands Ethiopian Opals are fast out-doing Australian Opals for marvelous play of colour and clarity. Well the Ethiopians started selling off this rough Opal and the gem trade lapped it up. Now the Ethiopian government have woken up to this and they have passed a law which states that no more rough Opal may be exported from Ethiopia. Basically this means that jewellery makers and gem traders the world over will have to buy their Welo - Ethiopian Opals ready cut and faceted. What this now means is that unless the Ethiopians can cut and facet Opals to the standard that we have become used to (which is highly unlikely), all Ethiopian Opals will have to be re-cut and re-faceted. This breaks down to the fact that you will be getting much much smaller Opals for a much much higher price than now. So if ever there was a time to buy Opals that time is now. Whether they be coloured Opals, or white Opals like the Opals in these earrings, you should not hesitate. It doesn\'t matter if they are set in Gold or set in Silver, it isn\'t the precious metal which is the great investment, when it comes to Ethiopian Opal jewellery, it is the Opals themselves which are going to be so sought after. I am not telling you this because I have Ethiopian Opals listed for sale, I am telling you this to give you a heads-up, a fair crack of the whip. Whether you buy from me or not, you should be buying Ethiopian Opals now. Because along with Tanzanite, Russian Diopside and Songea Sapphires, I can\'t think of a better investment for the not too distant future. When all of this comes to pass a 1 - 2 years from now, please remember that you read it here, in my listing.
