Description

Post 1922 Austrian .800 silver lidded box, heart shaped with enamel details. Gilt interior. Face on lid appears to be the mythological North Wind blowing.

SIZE: Approximately 2\" x 1 3/4\" x 5/8\". It is quite heavy for its size weighing approximately 84.7 grams or 2.725 troy ounces.

MARKS: The box has three sets of marks ~ interior of base portion, edge of lid lip, and the underside lip of the lid. They are hard to read because of the gilt finish, but I am 100% certain that two of the marks, in a cartouche, are the Head of a toucan facing left with a \'4\' on the right side and a \"W\" on the left side. This would indicate that the box was made in Austria post-1922 (rather than during the Austro-Hungarian Empire) with a silver purity of .800 made in Vienna/Wein. Some of the additional marks are letters, like maker\'s marks. Please see photos below.

CONDITION: Older item. Lid is very tight. There are losses throughout to the enamel work. Please see close up photos below. Expect tarnish in deep recesses. PLEASE SCAN DOWN FOR MORE SUPER ENLARGED PHOTOS.
