Authentic 16th Century Ming Dynasty Wanli Bowl with Classical Motif:
$700.00

100% authentic antique, White and Blue Bowl from the period of Ming Dynasty Emperor Wanli (1573-1620 A.D.). It was made at Zingdezhen Klin in Jiangxi Province. The item is very tasteful with Chinese Taoist\'s auspicious symbols: children at play, scholar, and dear. These symbols were meant for long life, prosperity, and wealth. These symbols started to appear on trade ceramics at the time of Emperor Wanli in 16th Century, being exported to Southeast Asia and Persia. Wanli\'s reign was the longest of all Ming Emperors and was the era considered by some historians to have been one of the most prosperous in human history. After his reign, Ming Dynasty went into a sharp decline and eventually turned over the administration of China to Qinq Dynasty in 30 years. The bowl is thin potted. The glaze is thin and clear but less glossy. The cobalt is fired to a purplish blue hue. When lightly knocked, the bowl produces very nice, deep bell sound effect -- this means that it has no crack and was made from top quality white kao lin. It has natural appearance and looks much better than those antique ceramics from sunken ship. If you know Chinese ceramics, you will find this very valuable.Diameter 12 cm, Height 6.5 cm. This is 100% antique, NOT a reproduction. Please note that the carved wooden stand is for display only and is not included in the sales. This item was found in 1990s in Thailand\'s northern province of Payao, which was an ancient vassal city of the now dissolved Lanna Kingdom. It was found along with many 15-16th century Lanna and Chinese ceramics. Buried in the soil for over 400 years, only this item is still in good condition, no crack, no discoloration.Similar ceramics are also currently exhibited at Southeast Asia Ceramic Museum on Bangkok University\'s Rangsit Campus in north Bangkok.Shipping and Handling
