Fighter General Adolf Galland (1912 – 1996) is one of thebest known German WW2 fighter pilots. He is credited with downing 103 enemyaircraft.He flew and fought all the way from the Spanish civil warin the Condor Legionuntil the end on VE day, May 8, 1945.


During the Battle of Britain,hewas given command ofJG 26on 22 August 1940. His group, flying Messerschmitt Bf 109s,claimed 285fighters shot down, for losses of 76 aircraft and 45 pilots. He received theKnight’s Cross with Oak Leaves, Swordsand Diamonds. He was appointed commander of all Luftwaffe day and nightfighters, was fired by Goering, saved by Hitler, and at the last of the war commandedthe famous JG-44 jet fighter wing flying the ME-262, the world\'sfirst operationaljet-powered fighter aircraft. It’sall here in his autobiography.


What I am offering is “one of a kind” World War II treasure: This is an autographed hardback copy (publishedin London 1955) of The First and the Last by WW2 German Luftwaffe General of Fighters (Generalder Jagdflieger) Adolf Galland.Also included are other signatures and memorabilia. (This edition has a forwardby British ace Wing Commander Douglas Bader.)


Here is thebackstory: In May 1984, General Gallandwas a guest of honor at the “Gathering of Eagles,” the closing, year-end, celebratorybanquet of the US Air Force Air Command and Staff College (ACSC) at MaxwellAFB, AL. I was an Air Force officer student at ACSC, who had written aleadership paper on Galland. I introduced myself to him and struck up a slight friendship.


I later sent GeneralGalland a copy of my essay on his leadership and this hardback English copy ofhis autobiography. The General returned the book, having signed pictures in thebook in fourteen (14) different locations. The book is inscribed with theGerman phrase, “Hals und Beinbruch” which is a German greeting between pilotsand translates roughly: “Break a Leg” and is dated “Oct, 1990.” Some of thesigned pictures show Galland with Goering and Hitler.


Included in thisoffering is a letter to the General with a copy of the leadership essay. Also includedis a letter from General Galland to me and two other signed photographs of theGeneral, along with General Galland’s place setting card from the gala dinnerof 1984 with his mailing address in Germany which he wrote on the reverse.


You receive thiscopy of The First and the Last, autographed in fourteen (14) locations,two additional signed Galland photographs, the place card, a signed letter fromthe General, and the ACSC leadership essay.
