For your consideration is a lovely antique silver-plate footed basket by Rogers Smith Co., New Haven, Conn. 1865 (later Meriden). Gorgeous rich details~decorative border on the basket and the base, reticulated bowl, and beautiful embossed handle! The name \'Mary Louisa Martindale\' is
engraved on the center of the handle. There is a famous \'Louisa Martindale\' who was a cutting edge female surgeon. I do not know if there is any connection. I believe this to be a bride\'s basket (for flowers, cake, desserts, towels) or perhaps for calling cards. It is 12\" across by 9 1/2\" by 4\".
