Here is a a wonderful sculpture of a pair of dolphin leaping through the waves. The dolphin are made in bronze; moulded using a traditional lost wax casting technique.
They are depicted leaping high above a brass cast wave and the whole sculpture is mounted on a highly polished moss green circular base, which has a white hairline running from the centre (see extreme close up in photo 6).
This lovely sculpture stands a full 22.5cm/9ins tall and measures 7cm/2.85ins across the base. It has no dents, no dinks and there are no chips to the marble base whhich is cushioned to prevent damage to the surface on which it stands.
Bronze Casting
The technique of lost wax bronze casting is one of Man\'s earliest technologies dating back at least 6000 years and the basic method has changed very little since that time. Modern craftsmen have some technical advantages over those of past times with welding equipment and power tools, efficient gas or oil burners and flexible rubbers for moulding. However, today\'s process is still heavily dependant upon many hours of skilled labour and remains a \'low tech, high skill\' craft
