THIS GREAT MIRROR WAS JUST PURCHASED FORM A WONDERFUL OLD FOLK ART COLLECTION. IT HAS BEEN IN THE COLLECTION FOR MANY, MANY YEARS.

AN EXTREMELY RARE EARLY 19TH CENTURY COUNTRY FRAGMENT MIRROR WITH THE ABSOLUTE BEST CARVED AND SHAPED TOP CREST AND WONDERFUL FOLK ART CARVING THROUGHOUT IN ITS ORIGINAL OLD GRUNGY ATTIC SURFACE ALL IN MAPLE. IT STILL RETAINS ITS ORIGINAL BACKBOARD AS WELL AS ITS ORIGINAL BLUE HAND PRINTED WALLPAPER COVERING. New England, Circa 1820-1840.

A FANTASTIC EARLY FOLK ART MIRROR.

A great old piece of Yankee ingenuity. This neat old mirror was made around a piece of mirrored glass they had. The glass itself is a small piece of 18th century mirror that probably came out of a QA mirror. They then \"MADE\" a frame for it. This is a common occurrence in the rural part of the country in the 18th and 19th centuries. Mirror glass or plate was very expensive and if they had a piece that would craft another frame for it.

What is UNCOMMON IS THE FOLK ART DESIGN TO THE PIECE AS WELL AS THE ORIGINAL CARVED DETAILS THROUGHOUT. IT HAS A CARVED FLORAL DESIGN AND A WONDERFUL CHIP CARVED EDGE.

The mirror is American Sugar Maple and the back appears to be poplar. It still RETAINS THE ORIGINAL BLUE COLORED HAND PRINTED WALL PAPER USED AS A BACKING TO HOLD IN THE BOARD AND GLASS.

FANTASTIC ORIGINAL ATTIC SURFACE.
The mirror plate has an old and small crack in the upper corner, (see photos). It is still tight and strong.

15 1/4\" tall and 5 1/2\" across, the mirror itself is 8\" by 2\".
