The Coup Stick is in Excellent Condition.
A coup stick was used by the North American Plains Indian warrior against an enemy warrior to count coup. The word coup is of French origin and means a blow or strike. One of the most prestigious acts of courage by a warrior was touching an enemy warrior with his hand or a coup stick and surviving- thus, counting coup - a very high risk endeavor. It had to be witnessed by another warrior. His prestige grew with each coup signified by a new feather or a notch.
This Coup Stickis approximately 71 3/4\" in length and is approximately3 3/4\" at its widest point (bone head). The diameter of the handle is approximately 1 5/8\". It weighs about 3 lb. 7 oz. It is crafted in the following materials:
