An Exquisite SCALLOPED & EMBOSSED Set of 2 DECORATIVE PLATES from Selb, Bavaria C.M. Hutschenreuther, Artist Signed Merryman, Blue FORGET-ME-NOTS & YELLOW ROSES w/GOLD Trim on Racine mold, circa 1887-1918

DESCRIPTION: Fetching sprays of blue Forget-Me-Nots with green leaves and yellow roses decorate this set of 2 plates. This is signed by the talented artist, Merryman. This is on the Hutschenreuther mold, Racine, which is identical to the Haviland mold, Ranson Blank #1. The wide blue washes around the rims and the narrow gold trim on the rims add to the character of the set. The paint is highlighted by accents of raised paint. As with sets of hand painted items, if you look carefully, you can find differences in the plates. This is part of the intrigue of hand painted items. We have a matching condiment set of creamer, sugar w/lid, salt & pepper and a mayonnaise & ladle in other listings. (All are signed by the artist, Merryman. Search in our store for the word, Merryman.)

CONDITION: While this set is classified as used, its condition is superb. We find no defects or damage. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches, crazing or hairlines. There is no wear to the gold on the rims.

DIMENSIONS: This plates are 8 5/8\" in diameter and have a height of 1\".

HISTORY/MARKS: The Hutschenreuther porcelain story began when Karl Magnus Hutschenreuther, 1793-1845, discovered kaolin in northEastern Bavaria in 1814 where he established his company. His son Lorenz managed the Hohenberg porcelain factory from 1845-1857. He founded his own Hutschenreuther Porcelain Company in Selb in 1856 which became highly successful and 113 years later absorbed his father’s company. All of the Hutschenreuther Companies were trend setters of high quality porcelain. Hutschenreuther became known for the love of detail, distinctive brilliance of color, and lustrous beauty shown through the decorating of the fine porcelain pieces. The mark on this set is that of theHutschenreuther Selb Germany (Lorenz) company which is of the style of those used in the 1887-1910 time period. We also have a set consisting of salt & pepper shakers and a creamer & sugar set which are also signed by the same artist, Merryman, and have the Nippon Risisng Sun mark. That mark was used 1911-1918. This further dates this plate set to that time period. We believe you will be very intrigued with this decorative set.
