Description:

This is a beautiful, 3-piece, solid silver tea set ofrounded form; each piece having applied bands of stylised egg & dartdecoration and standing on a spreading circular foot. The set consists of a teapot with ebony handle and finial (the handle having a carved, acanthus leafthumb-rest); a cream jug and a sugar bowl; the tea pot is unusual - having itsown internal, removable strainer.

Condition:

Apart from the usual fine surface marks commensuratewith age and use, there is a small hole in the mesh on the side of the tea potstrainer; other than this the set is in excellent condition for 97 years oldand is without a monogram, crest or inscription.

TheApprox. Measurements Are:

TheTea Pot: 14.5 cm high to the top of the finial; 12.5 cm high tothe back of the thumb-rest on the handle; 25.7 cm from the tip of the spoutthrough to the back of the handle; 9.2 cm across the base of the foot; has acapacity of 1¼ pints very comfortably and weighs 648grams / 20.836 troy oz.(including wooden handle and finial, and removeable strainer).

TheCream Jug: 6.2 cm high; 12.8 cm through from the tipof the spout to the tip of the thumb-rest on the handle; 8.2 cm across the topof the bowl; 4.6 cm across the base of the foot; has a capacity of ¼ pintcomfortably and weighs 126 grams / 4.051 troy oz.

TheSugar Bowl: 6.3 cm high; 15.2 cm through from handletip to handle tip; 9.6 cm across the top of the bowl; 5.8 cm across the base ofthe foot and weighs 163 grams / 5.241 troy oz.

The total weight of the set is 937 grams / 30.128 troyoz. (including wooden handle and finial, and removeable strainer).

Hallmarks:

The set is fully hallmarked to each piece; has thelion passant and maker’s mark to the inside of the lid; is stamped with aregistered design number 592672 and WALKER & HALL SHEFFIELD to the rim ofthe strainer and is stamped to the underside of each piece with the maker’smark above WALKER & HALL SHEFFIELD, above the pattern number 64443.

The assay office is Sheffield, with the date letterfor 1920 and the maker’s mark for the renowned silversmiths, Walker & Hall.
