I have up for sale with a beautiful antique American 4/4 violin that is ready to play. This violin was hand made by Ralph C. Dunham in New Britain, CT around 1890. The original label is attached and reads, \"Ralph C. Dunham, New Britain, No. 160\". There is a date on the label, but only the first two digits of \"18\" are legible.

This violin is well made and in very good to excellent condition, especially for being approximately 125 years old. The original finish has a nicely aged patina that really sets off the wonderful wood grain. The spruce top is nicely tight grained, and the top and back are highly flamed. The top and bottom are also free of cracks, and there are no open seams. The tastefully carved scroll and peg box are in great shape, and the tuning peg holes have all been fully bushed. The sides are also in great shape with only one small closed crack on the lower Right bout. The neck and fingerboard are solid and in very good shape, as well as the ebony tuning pegs, end pin, and chin rest. The bridge is of good quality and well fitted, and the strings are in good condition. The tail piece is aluminum with the fine tuners made into it. This is a full size violin that is ready to play and the measurements are as follows: overall length - 23.5\", body length - 14.5\", upper bout width - 6.5\", lower bout width - 8.5\", nut to bridge length - 13\".

The sound of this violin is just as beautiful as the wood it is made from. It has a full, rich and nicely aged tone that you would expect from a quality instrument of this age. It is clean and well balanced across all the strings, and is easy and enjoyable to play. It has good volume and easily makes clean, beautiful notes.
