&lt;img beautiful Victorian/Edwardian era bespoke handpainted portrait brooch is unique in many ways. The portrait is completely encased in sterling silver and covered on top with thick concave glass. Because it is completely sealed, I have not opened it, but its weight is consistent with a porcelain handpainted portrait. It can be worn as a brooch, albeit it is most likely too heavy,however the slim bale at top allows it to be strung with wire and hung on a wall. It is possible the pin back was added to the plaque at a later date. Measures 3 3/4\" x 2 3/4\". Weighs 81 grams. Unmarked. Tests sterling silver.
