For Your Fish Decoy or Wood Carvings A very nice antique weighted working fish decoy made of wood with metal fins and weighted with what we believe is lead. This decoy appears to be carved of a single piece of wood that has been painted in two tone brown coloring with black colored dots, central line and tail definition. The piece has red gills and orange eyes with a black center. The fish has 5 metal fins with the top fin having holes to hang from. The fins are made of ferrous material (they stick to a magnet). The fins are painted but they lost some of the paint and show signs of rust. All five fins are secured in the wooden body. The fish has a slight curvature near the tail and has painted eyes, which are orange with black centers. The bottom of the fish is painted in a dark cream or light brown coloring and shows that there is material that is inserted into the wood to give the piece a nice weight. The material which we believe is lead has been painted over but you still can see its outline. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

  • Origin: Purchased at an estate sale in SouthEastern Pennsylvania.
  • Size: Measures ~7\" long, ~2 5/8\" at its widest (at the front fins), and about ~2\" at its highest (where the back fin is located). The piece weighs about 4.6 ounces.

  • Condition: The decoy is in excellent condition, with no breaks, or repairs. The piece has a few scratches, a few minor dings to the surface, a couple of surface cracks, and losses to the paint especially to the top edge and along the edges of the tail. The piece has some wear at the edges of the tail and losses of paint to the fins. The paint on the fins shows losses and the fins themselves show minor signs of rust. The piece is relatively clean and the colors are still vivid. A true beauty worthy of a spot in your collection. Please view the photos for additional condition information.
