Beautiful Georgian Mahogany Longcase Clock with ultra rare Oval case door C1800:

A fine and rare Georgian Mahogany &Inlaid Longcase Clock, dating to around 1800, and in fullworking order. The clock is by J. Edgecumbe of Bristol, a fine and renowned family of clockmakers whos clocks usually command a handsome figure, please google the makers to see other examples of their fine clocks and craftsmanship.

The case is in figured Mahogany with someline inlays to the case,and is in very good condition. The extremely rare Oval case door(the only one I have ever seen I think) with a figured Mahogany panel inside a moulded edge, missing itslock but fitted with a locking catch,and original brass hinges. The base with amahogany panel inside line inlays, and the clockstands on its original small plinth at only at 84inches in total height.

The hood with its swan neck pediment, the horns are finished with its gilded paterae to the horn tips, and with the central brass ball and eagle finial. The glazedhood door with its brass handle and original old glass, and the door isflanked by Reeded pillars withlovely gilded Corinthian column tops capitals. The clock retainsits original backboard.

The period one painted arched dial isin nice condition, the chapter ring having hours representedby Roman numerals, with an outer minute ring.The centreof the dial with the working seconds dial above the twin winding holes, andwith its calendar apertuere above the makers signature. The top archwith a good floral scene, and with floral scenes to the four corners also, and the dial is finished with its full set of Steel hands.

The4 pillar rack and snail striking,8day duration movement is in good condition and in full workingorder, striking out the hours on a bell. Theclock is set up and keeping good time, as with all antique clocks it wouldbenefit from a clean and service at some time in the future. Theclock comescomplete with it\'s original old weights and pendulum, along with a winding key.

Dimensions - 84 inches high

Faults; There are some minor chipsand cracks as you would expect, the seatboard may have been changed hence the support strips, there is an age crack to the base panel.
