This is a particularly pretty watch, the .585 14 carat gold hallmarked case is in nice condition with just one small dink on the bezel. The detailing on the back is in great condition. The hinges are good & it has a lovely white enamel dial with gold & silver coloured dot markers& Roman Numerals. I did think it was perfect but under an eyeglass I can see some feint hairlines. It also has a delightful looking pair of hands. It is the pinset / nailset type of mechanical movement & the hands set OK. It also winds OK & runs with a very sluggish action, losing a lot of time over the course of 24 hours. The movement is gilt finished & has AR & Co marked on it. There is an inner case back which is just metal rather than gold, on it it says \' A L\'Etoile d\'Or Weil Freres Geneve\'. On Googling the jewellers name I found a few watches being sold through the likes of Christies& Bonhams. The approximate diameter of the watch is 30mm excluding the strap lugs & onion winding crown. It is fitted with a used Hirsch leather strap.

Many watches claim to be ‘Waterproof or Water – Resistant’, this is a manufacturers claim & is not relevant on a vintage or used watch even on a divers watch so I offer no guarantees regarding this. Most manufacturers only guarantee this claim for the first year of the watches life & on early vintage watches the claim of water-proof is inaccurate. For any used or vintage watch to be waterproof it will need to be sealed by a professional watchmaker & tested in specialist equipment.
