Beautiful Rare English Or German Early Pierced Guard Rapier Sword Circa 1630s:
Rare example dating from 1620s - 1630s era, most likely a German or English rapier having a large complex guard which is an early variation of cup-hilt combined with swept-hilt features, pierced symmetrical cups and the rest of the hilt mounts are showing very fine evenly distributed pitting and light gray patina, very fine braided wire grip fully intact and solid, topped with a large pommel fluted on the front side and plain on the back. Wearing a straight double edged blade of semi diamond and semi oval section with double blood grooves to each side running in to the very tip, free of markings and showing lovely gray patina and areas of fine pitting. Solid and overall intact on this scarce early weapon.overall 44" blade 36".
