after ten years of abstinence and 40 years of collecting, im divesting my paper collection, as well as some others.....
I have a collection of over 40 envelopes addressed mostlyto the president of the united states states, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, sent to him at the white house. i will be posting them on over the next few weeks ( may turn into months) ill be doing them in groups and some individually. Most of these envelopes are just addressed \"to the president\' or \"the White House,\" while some specifically to Mr. or Mrs. Roosevelt, or both and some incare of FDR\'s personal secretaries, Grace Tully or Miss LeHand.
Some have return addresses, but most do not,but for those that do, i have also scanned the back of the envelope.some are from relatives ,and several are from eleanor., but most are random.
the one for sale here is from one of FDR\'s \"favorite daughter in laws \".. betsey cushing, one of the famous cushing sisters..... r married to james roosevelt. this envelope is from her to FDR at the white house .... SPECIAL DELIVERY ......
\"She grew up in the Boston suburb of Brookline and married first, at 22, to James Roosevelt, eldest son of Franklin D. Roosevelt, then Governor of New York. By the time F.D.R. was in the White House, Betsey was such a favorite of the President\'s that she antagonized her mother-in-law, Eleanor, as well as her husband. The marriage ended in 1940, but two years later Betsey landed John Hay (Jock) Whitney, heir to one of America\'s greatest fortunes, and later Ambassador to Britain.\" new york times, By ELISABETH BUMILLER , JAN. 3, 1999
