Big 1976 American Bicentennial Maryland State Seal Knight Baron Baltimore Medal:
Here is a very nice vintage medal made of a heavily silver-plated bronze, in quite splendid condition overall, measuring app. 2 & 1/2" across, with a plain edge. This beautiful patriotic commemorative shows basically no wear, and it has great color, with full, crisp detail. I have not cleaned it in any manner, and four of the scans have been "enhanced" for clarity. At about 1/4" thick, it weighs a healthy 4.5 ounces, and it comes in its original, well-used box of issue.
The obverse features a scene of a heavily armored horse and its knight rider heading left, the fellow with a sword raised and long plumes on his helmet, his mount protected and made to look like a unicorn. The small dates "1776-1976" are at the upper right, with "American Revolution Bicentennial In Maryland" beneath the view. Around all is ". Carolvs: Absolv. Dms. Terrae. Mariae. Et. Avaloniae. Baro. De: Baltemore.", a cross at the top.
The reverse features the seal of the state, I'd guess, which incorporates a bannered crown with Flags, a shield enclosing crossed and flanked by two men, a slogan in Latin on a banner beneath., all surrounded by another spaced inscription in Latin. The edge is stamped "C (copyright) Medallic Art Co., Danbury, Ct. - Bronze S/P". Superb! $4.99
