The rind of the fruit is a striated green, and the flesh is a delicious red. Black diamond routinely produces watermelons in the 50 pound range, but some can grow as large as 75 pounds! Black diamond watermelon produces lip licking juicy red melons during the mid season just when you are craving a cool melon the most.
Bred to have a tough skin and large leaves to prevent sunburn. This is one drought tolerant melon! The rind is thick enough to tolerate transport but thin enough to make slicing a breeze. Excellent late season home garden variety. Flesh is bright red, firm and sweet. A large, nearly round melon. Black Diamond Watermelons have dark green skin with bluish cast. Ships well. Mature in 90-95 days. Planting guide: Plant after danger of frost in hills 6 to 8 feet apart. Plant seed not over one inch deep 4 to 6 to the hill, pressing soil firmly over them.
