Four platinum photographs, three of Blackfoot tribesmen in Idaho and one of a man dancing with an elk. Dated 1888. The two Blackfoot men are standing on a dusty street with a number of bystanders. One holds a rifle and both look battle-worn and tough as nails. The larger images measure 7.5\" x 4.25\" and all are in good condition. Schumacher Album
These pages are from an album of photographs which appear to have been taken by Charles P. Schumacher of Leadville, Colorado. Individuals depicted include Schumacher\'s wife, his sons Waldron P. (born 1881) and Harris H. (born 1884) and various businessmen such as W. H. Keller and Charles A. Judkins. After moving from Massachusetts to Leadville circa 1885, Schumacher worked as the General Manager and Superintendent of the Dunkin Mining Co. The photos are dated 1888-1889 and the majority are high quality platinum prints featuring Colorado mining towns, saloons, Dakota Territory ranches, prospectors, andBlackfoot Indians. They are available in eight separate lots. Although a hobbyist, Schumacher was able to afford a large camera and develop his images using the expensive platinum process. As the prints were made with platinum rather than silver there are no age effects such as fading or silvering. They have nearly neutral blacks and a tonal range greater than gelatin silver or albumen prints. After they were mounted, the images were lightly coated with varnish, giving them a slight gloss but also wrinkling the album pages. Interestingly, Mt. Gothic Tomes recently sold four Leadville cabinet cards also taken by Schumacher.
