Despite stated flaws d/j complete,still decent and presented as well as possible in a protective cover.

Robin Read was hired byColin Chapman in 1959 as Sales Manager for Lotus at the ripe old age of 25 whenthe new factory at Cheshunt opened to manufacture the Elite, Seven and a full range of competitioncars. He faced the Herculean task ofrapidly devising a marketing strategy for the Elite and a distribution networkfor the Seven to absorb the burgeoning output of the new factory. This is an account (completely unauthorised)of life in the shadow of Colin Chapman.Robin Read was – like all others in the Chapman circle – under theinfluence of the magnetism and charm of the Great Designer himself but despitehis tender years had already acquired sufficient experience of business andhuman frailty to form an objective view of his surroundings and adventures withLotus. Colin Chapman’s Lotus is an affectionate but critical view ofChapman the man and his work in a narrative covering eleven years (1951-1962)of the Lotus story. The evolution of theElite and its successor the Elan is traced and presented, often in a completelynew light, after access to new source material.The Book concludes with an assessment of Chapman’s significance as adesigner in this period and includes a selection of hitherto unpublisheddocuments from the author’s personal archive and collections of former Lotuscolleagues. Robin Read is the first towrite about Lotus and Chapman “from within”.
