Bradley & Hubbard Embossed Brass Victorian Banquet Lamp with Unusual Wick Raiser:
$125.00

Very attractive Bradley and Hubbard banquet lamp. It stands 15\" high, as shown, and would be approximately 10\" higher with an appropriate chimney and shade. It is 5 1/2\" square at the base. It is signed B & H on the base.

The adjustable wick raiser is an interesting feature, patented by Bradley and Hubbard in 1892 - it reads on the side only \"patent applied for\".

The brass kerosene well is embossed with an ornate shell pattern. The lower portion, below the heavy brass spiral stem is glass. It has been painted internally in trompe l\'oeil to resemble onyx or marble. The paint is peeling internally in a few spots, as shown in the close up photos.

The base is cast metal, most likely spelter, with a detailed floral design. One corner was broken and has a repair. This is evident from the underside, but very hard to detect from the upper side.

The lamp was electrified pre 1940, and should either be rewired or restored as a kerosene lamp. This lamp has been in storage since about 1950, but the previous owner has a photo of it in his grandparents home circa 1940. In the photo, there is a chimney and globe shade with flowers. These pieces have been lost or broken, but it is fairly easy to find replacements.

This lamp would have been used in an upper middle class Victorian home. The higher lamps, such as this, were used on a dinner or banquet table.
