Lot includes Victory Medal, photocopy of service page. Mr Leach entered the Royal Navy at around 15 years old in 1916, he had previously worked at a \"bottle warehouse\" in Hackney. He served aboard a variety of ships, including HMS Carlisle, HMS Conqueror and HMS Monarch. He rose to the rank of Able Seaman. Despite signing for 12 years, he was invalided in 1922 due to Epilepsy. The Victory medal (full title \"Inter-Allied Victory Medal\" or \"Wilfred\" as it is informally named) follows a basic design agreed upon at Versailles in 1919. The medal is in lacquered bronze and shows a winged victory holding a palm branch. The design of Victory was taken from Victoria Memorial outside Buckingham palace. The recipient needed to have entered a theatre of war between 1914-1918, served as a nurse, been part of the British mission to Japan or cleared mines from the North Sea between 1918-19.
