Here I have a genuine bronze ‘Burmese Beast Opium Weight’, on an octagonal base (8 sided) with 3 horizontal base lines, weight 325g height 6.3cm (2.5in). Characterised by a tail with 3 tufts curving upwards and ‘chest beading’, (a double chain of small circles), this delightful lion also depicts horns and cow hooves. I can only estimate it’s age as possibly 19thc ? it could be a lot older!Provenance: Family inheritance, from agroup of various other items collected in the mid 1900’s by my Asian/Dutch family who lived and worked inJakartaandBali, serious collectors of Asian, antique artefacts which they displayed and enjoyed for years, in their London non-smoking home.
