c. 1915 PHOTO ALBUM of GEORGE HOWE, famous Philadelphia architect HIGH HOLLOW:
$295.00

On offer is a unique circa 1916 photograph album, likely owned by the family of noted Philadelphia architect, George Howe. Photograph album contains approximately 30 high quality original photographs of two Howe homes: 1) High Hollow at Chestnut Hill and 2) Fortune Rock. High Hollow is considered one of the most influential Philadelphia-area homes of the first quarter of the 20th century, setting a template that was oft repeated. It was the home of the prominent Paley Family, which was influential in creating the Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS) and was recently sold. The photographs are period and exquisitely shot by a superior photographer. They show the home shortly after it was built, for Howe\'s wife is still living there, and they moved out just a few years after it was finished. It opens a fascinating window into how it originally looked and how it was originally decorated. There is also a photo of Fortune Rock, as well as a period pamphlet concerning the house which I have not been able to find any other record of. An important document of early Modern Philadelphia architecture. All of the photos can be seen below.Item Photos
