An English translation of Dante\'s Hell, Purgatory and Paradise.

Translated by Henry Francis Cary, a British author.He is best knownfor this translation ofDante\'s Divine Comedy. He translated this poem intoblank verse.

The title page is undated, dated from copac. However, preface is dated 1814and the prior owner\'s inscription 1882.

Dante Alighieri was a majorItalian poet of the Late Middle Ages. He has been named as the \'Father\'of the Italian language as he wrote in Tuscan dialect which then became standardized Italian. Divinecomedy is an epic poem and is widely considered as the preeminentwork of Italian literature.Dante\'s imaginativevision of the afterlife is representative of the medieval world-view.

CONDITION

In a half calf binding. Externally, sound with slight rubbing, particularly to spine and boards.Prior owner\'s ink inscription to recto of front free-endpaper, dated 1882. Internally, generally firmly bound though strained in places. Pages are generally bright with instances of scattered spots throughout. Pencil notations to text, doesn\'t affect text. Overall: GOOD.
