A GENUINE ANTIQUE, HIGH VICTORIAN ERA, EMBROIDERED PIECE THAT\'S NEARLY ABOVE AND BEYOND DESCRIPTION. THIS TRUE VICTORIAN HAND-DONE EMBROIDERY IS MUSEUM QUALITY. I\'VE RELEGATED THIS AND A SECOND EMBROIDERED ENGLISH JEWEL TO THE DIM LIGHT OF AN INSIDE HALLWAY TO PREVENT ANY DAMAGE FROM ANY PART OF THE LIGHT SPECTRUM. This is one of those special pieces that a textile dealer/seller loves beyond reason. An item that I had always intended to keep and always have in a place where it would be nearby and visible. The treatment of the Coronation Cord has always intrigued me. I wish I had the time to learn the process. ATTENTION! This lovely old doily is authentic, it\'s heirloom quality. I\'m hoping you will look long and carefully at the photographs, it\'s the closest thing to touching the real thing.
MEASUREMENTS: the size of this embroidered piece that\'s visible under the glass is 15 1/2\" by 13 1/4\". The wooden frame holding the textile is 1 1/8\" wide, giving us a total The proportionally perfect worked piece is extraordinary. The lovely stitches, swirls and flourishes done in intricate hand work will fill you with awe! I\'ve seen so many lovely hand embroidered textiles that I have to confess that I\'m not easily impressed but this IS impressive. The iconic Royal Society satin stitch is utilized in creating virtual \"wall to wall\" satin stitches in plush silk and wool stitching. Hopefully, these measurements and the photos with the ruler will give you perspective on size.
CONDITION: beautiful perfection in true antique condition. I\'m hoping you will expand and review the photographs to see all the details. After purchasing this framed piece on a 1991 buying trip to Europe, I intended to remove this from the frame and \"do something\" with this embroidered item. As you see, here is the embroidery YEARS later! I\'ve never done a thing with it. There are broken or missed Royal Society stitches, pulled threads, holes, age or storage marks of any kind. This piece was my example of dignified English hand worded stitchery in my lace and embroidery collection. As such, my examples are always perfect specimens, if at all possible.
NOTES: This exquisite antique doily has been carefully stored in a closed, lockable barn, at two different locations, for as long as I remember. This doily was a key piece in my linen collection. Recently, I\'ve come to realize that I simply am not going to be able to use all the items I\'ve put back to \"use someday\". It\'s your turn to have the opportunity to own and cherish many items I\'ve held back for myself. I bought this at the very first antique show I did in 1985. (Coincidentally, I purchased this doily 85 years after its estimated year of being made! (I985, WOW! I bought this from another dealer in antique textiles who gave me the history of this fine linen doily. Examples of this type of English linen are among the most desired of all the smaller linens.
