Circa 1942 WWII Koppers Coal Advertising Sign / Poster showing Coal Miners\' Photos. This old heavy paper sign is about 22\" X 17\". It has three pierced holes at top and soiling and edge roughness. It is printed in red, white and blue with black and white photos of individual coal miners who worked for Koppers Coal Company and were serving in World War II at the time. It appears that Koppers hung these somewhere in mining communities and changed them every Monday during the war. These posters are very hard to find. There are navy and army men pictured--There is a Pawvluk from Sonman mine in PA, a Watsell from Weeksbury mine in KY, a Frye from Midvale mine in Ohio, a Gibson from Kopperston WV, a Meadows from Glen White WV, a Barnas from Sonman in PA, a Truban from Everettville WV, and a Lowery from Melcroft mine in PA. It\'s also interesting how it lists the coal company job of each man--some of the jobs are: Slateman, Tippleman, Conveyor Loader, Joy Operator (an early Joy Continuous Miner?), a worker at the Glen White Company Store, a mechanis and a clerk. This poster was earlier in the war than the other one I have on and has fewer soldiers, as you can see. Thanks for looking..
