How many Civil War ferrets have you seen...lately?

Submitted for your consideration is a rather unique CDV (carte-de-visite) from the Civil War. This one depicts an unidentified New Hampshire Infantry (cd/b Artillery, but don\'t thinks so) Soldier with...and I\'m not kidding here...a FERRET on his shoulder! I sure hope this petdidn\'t make the trip to the seat of war, because it wouldn\'t be long before the boys were enjoying ferret-kabobs.

The photographer was D. A. Simon of Smyth\'s Block in Manchester NH. Those familiar with Elm Street may know that this property is now the Brady-Sullivan Plaza,near the YMCA, and right next door to 1000 Elm St (tallest building in the city).

There are twoWar RevenueTax Stamps on the reverse, which denotes this CDV as being made after August/1864 (cd/b a copy with photo taken earlier, however). They sometimes wrote the date on these stamps, but did not in this case; just franked it as \"D S\", for D Simons, the photographer.
