We are delighted to offer for sale this very rare solid sterlingsilver 1902 gold gilt Charles & George Asprey retailed Leuchars & son Campaign cup withivory handle and leather clad case

I’m putting up for sale my entire collection ofsilver gold and watches to include mostly Asprey’s Tiffanys Liberty’s and a fewother choice select pieces, please checkout my other items

Thispiece is just about as rare as they come, in the original blue velvet lined leather clad case with theoriginal ivory & sterling silver mounted handle & pierced stand in fine used on Campaign condition. This piecewould have been a very senior ranking military officials piece costing aroundnine months wages for the average man in 1902

Thecondition is very fine, there are naturally some light scratches from the basesliding on and off the cup, as you can see it reverses to save space, there’sno dents or serious scratches otherwise

Leuchars Leucharswas established at 47 Piccadilly, London in 1794 by James Leuchars. In 1820,the business moved to 38 Piccadilly shortly before James Leuchars died in 1822.Lucy Leuchars, James’ widow, continued the business under the name of L. Leuchars.In 1837, the same year as Queen Victoria came to the throne, the firm wasawarded the Royal Warrant for their supply of dressing cases to the royalfamily. Expanding to 39 Piccadilly in 1841, the name had now changed to LucyLeuchars & Son; the ‘Son’ referring to William Leuchars.

After Lucy’s deathin 1847, William gained sole responsibility for the business. Leucharsexhibited and won prize medals for his dressing cases at the Great Exhibitionof 1851 and the International Exhibition of 1862, winning a furthersilvermedal at the International Exposition of 1867 in Paris. In 1870, under the nameof Leuchars & Son, William Leuchars along with his son, also calledWilliam, opened a further shop at 2 Rue de la Paix in Paris. When William Srdied in 1871, William Jr took control of the business, later winning a goldmedal for their dressing cases at theInternational Exposition of 1878 inParis. In 1884,

Leuchars moved theirexisting manufactory from 31 Gerrard Street, Soho, London to 8 Sherwood Street,Golden Square, London. William Jr finally agreed to sell the business, alongwith their Sherwood Street manufactory, to Asprey in 1888. Leuchars continuedto trade from their 38 & 39 Piccadilly address until 1902.
