CHARMING ANTIQUE 19th CENTURY STAFFORDSHIRE POTTERY CASTLE PASTILLEBURNER

This is a charming antique Staffordshire pottery pastille burner in theform of a castle folly decorated with shredded clay moss and flowers. Thecastle is well modelled with incised stone work and arrow slits on the towers. Itdates from around 1850. It is nicely painted with the clock face and details decoratedwith nice soft gilding. It has one small piece of moss missing from the top ofa battlement on the left hand tower and a tiny nick to the foot rim on the back(see photos with pins). Apart from the afore-mentioned it is in good conditionwith NO restoration. I will mention for completeness a couple of things: one, thatthere is a patch on the side where it stuck to something in the kiln - thisoccurred in manufacture and is not damage and two, that there is a line ofglaze crazing on the left hand corner – I have looked very closely at this witha magnifying loop and I see no sign of a crack running under the foot rim orinside the base so I am positive that it is only in the glaze. The castlemeasures 9.8 cm (4 7/8 inches) tall by 9.4 cm (4 ¾ inches) wide by 6.3 cm (2 ½inches) deep.
