An original State Bank of Virginia check dated April 3, 1882, and signed by Confederate MAJOR GENERAL JAMES L. KEMPER [1823-1895] a Virginia lawyer who served with distinction during the Civil War at Seven Pines, Antietam, Fredericksburg and Gettysburg. He led his Brigade at Pickett\'s Charge, and was severely wounded and captured by Union forces. He was exchanged three months later, and served in minor commands until the end of the war with the rank of Major General. He was later Governor of Virginia 1874-1877.......One page, dated Cavalry Headquarters, May 13, 1865, size 2 1/2\" x 6 3/4\", endorsed on reverse, very good condition........
