Civil War Period CDV of Maj. Stemmings 31st

This is a wonderful CDV of Major Stemmings of the 31st. I am not sure which 31st is being stated but it could well be a Kentucky unit. I am also selling another Civil War soldier of the 31st of Co, B. Perhaps the Major belonged to the same unit. The image shows the Major in a Napoleonic pose, hand under jacket. He\'s staring head on. Some research my reveal something spectacular about this sitter.

Condition: Crisp and clean, no rips or tears. Great contrast and tonal quality. This carte de visite was taken by the Campbell & Ecker studio of Louisville, KY. A 2 cent orange revenue stamp has been affixed to the back of the carte.
