Circa 1925-30 French bronze of Nude Snake Dancer. Measures 19\" tall overall including base. Bronze only is 14\" tall. Authentic gilt bronze and green cold painted detail in snake and in hair ungilt with green verdigris coloring.Guaranteed authentic and not a copy, and checked by experts.. I purchased this piece in 1998 in Vienna Austria, while on vacation,as an unknown artist Art Deco bronze.About 5 years agoI brought it to the Antiques Roadshow in Miami and was told about it.. It is an authentic gilt bronze with cold-painting. It was done by the French bronze sculptor Claire Colinet in approx. 1925-1930.. At some point it has been separated from its original base, according to an expert in Art Deco Bronzes I spoke to. The original base would have been more bullet shaped/rounded and elegant, and would have had a foundry mark and artists signature. I was given a value if having original base of around $5000-7000 for insurance purposes, or in this condition with a replaced and poorly fitting marble base of around $2000.. Or about 50% of an identical one which had recently sold in London. The green marble base which is on it now has a somewhat poor repair to it, it obviously had been dropped at some point and broke. There are remnants of old French newspaper stuck to bottom. My price is very reasonable so the new buyer can either find another better base, or have one made. The long screw that is in base removes from the nut easily and unscrews from her foot so replacing the base would be an easy task. I just don\'t have time to mess with this project and don\'t really collect Deco anyway. A great find for the right person. One of these is being offered online by a dealer with a square base, for $8000.00.
