On the night of 5th June 1944 thousands of brave young men across Great Britain waited in anticipation for the action that was to come. While some of these soldiers embarked upon ships in the channel, many were to land in occupied France by parachute, the vast majority jumping from C-47s such as this Corgi model. This particular machine was the transport for the leader of the first platoon of the 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, of the 101st Airborne, Richard \'Dick\' Winters who acted as jumpmaster. The star in the series \'Band of Brothers\', Winters was an inspirational leader to his men in the field both during the D-Day operations and later during the advance through occupied Europe. The C-47 aircraft carried thousands of troops throughout the Overlord campaign with this particular C-47 carrying one of the more famous liberators of France that night, helping to free occupied Europe from the Nazi Regime.
