The Battle of Cedar Creek, Va. Oct. 19th 1864.This great battle was fought in the Valley of the Shenandoah between the Union Army under Gen.Philip H.Sheridan and the rebel army commanded by Gen.Early. Plate shows the arrival of Gen.Sheridan at the battlefield who at once rallied his retreating troops and turned an apparent defeat into a glorious victory capturing nearly 7,000 prisoners including 3,000 wounded, 55 cannon, 10 battle Flags, 300 wagons and ambulances, and a great quantity of small arms, horses, mules, and accoutrements left behind by the routed rebels.The number 855 appears below the title.
